Rwanda Gorillas and Game Viewing 4-day Safari
This 4-day Rwanda Safari combines Gorilla tracking in the world-famous Volcanoes National Park and the exquisite game viewing experience in Akagera National Park with a touch of the Kigali City experience.
ITINERARY
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park, Boat cruise and Evening game drive
A representative from Native Expeditions Africa Safaris will pick you up from the airport or preferred location to embark on a journey to Akagera National Park in Eastern Rwanda. The drive is approximately 2½ hours and on arrival, you will go for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema to see aquatic animals such as Hippos, Crocodiles as well as water birds like the papyrus Gonolek, shoebill stork, and African fish eagle.
After lunch and relaxation, you will then go for a game drive in the park after which you will retire to your accommodation of choice for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Full-day game drives in Akagera National Park & transfer to Kigali
After breakfast on the second day, you will embark on a morning game drive. The park hosts a number of big mammals with the most sought after being Lions, Buffaloes, Giraffes, Zebras, Elephants, and Hippos, which will provide for great photographic moments.
You will later have a picnic lunch in the park then continue with the hills game drive where you will see more animals before setting off for Kigali.
Dinner and overnight at the accommodation of your choice.
Day 3: City tour of Kigali & transfer to Volcanoes National Park
On day 3, you will get the opportunity to visit the memorial sites scattered in various parts of the city. These will include the Genocide memorial sites where thousands of innocent people lost their lives during the 1994 genocide. you will also visit the Presidential Palace Museum, and more. Each place selected for visitation has a unique, deeply emotional story attached to it that will be told by the locals with exhibition too.
You will then have lunch and transfer to Ruhengeri town just outside the Volcanoes National Park.
Dinner and overnight at an accommodation of your choice.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking & transfer to Kigali
On this day, you will have an early breakfast and then head out to the Kinigi Park headquarters for a briefing on the Gorilla tracking rules. You will be allocated a Gorilla family to track and guides to lead you to the Gorillas. The gorilla trekking is a strenuous exercise through thick jungle on steep terrain that is uneven, wet and often muddy for hours, depending on the location of the Gorillas. Once sighted, you will spend a maximum of one hour with the Gorillas.
Return to the lodge for lunch and later transfer to Kigali where you will be dropped off at your accommodation of choice or the airport for departure.
