Gorillas & Golden Monkey tracking (3 days)

During this 3-day safari in Rwanda, you will have the opportunity to experience what the Volcanoes National Park has to offer in terms of primate tracking

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival and optional city tour and transfer to volcanoes National Park

A Native Expeditions Africa safaris representative will pick you up from the airport on arrival. If you arrive early, you will have the opportunity to take a quick city tour to craft villages and other noteworthy sites before heading to your place of accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes National Park

Today after breakfast, you will head to the park office for a briefing. From here your driver/guide will take you as close as possible to the starting point of your tracking as you embark on an exciting journey along forested slopes, entwined vines, bushes and bamboo before you eventually reach the gorillas’ location.

Once the gorillas have been located, you will be allowed a maximum of one hour with them to observe them going on about their day and even to enjoy your photo opportunity with these beautiful creatures. A typical tracking experience can go for as long as 8 hours depending on where the Gorillas are stationed on a given day.

Day 3: Golden monkey tracking- Transfer to airport

On the third day, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for golden monkey tracking, which is a completely different experience but just as rewarding.

The Golden Monkey (Cercopithecus Mitis Kandti) is a local subspecies of the widespread Sykes Monkey, also known as the “Blue Monkey” and is endemic to the high-altitude forests of the Volcanoes National Park area. The monkeys are playful and inquisitive and often spend their time leaping from bamboo branches or frolicking on the forest floor. As with treks to see the Mountain Gorillas, treks to see the Golden Monkeys take place in the mornings and visitors are permitted to stay for 1 hour with the monkeys.

Later on this day, your driver/guide will take you to the airport in time for your flight home.
