5 wild days of Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo National Park
On this tour, you will experience Queen Elizabeth National park, named after Queen Elizabeth II which is one of Uganda’s most popular tourist destinations and home to 95 species of mammal and over 500 species of birds. The Ishasha sect of the park is famous for its tree-climbing lions.
Lake Mburo National Park is also on the menu during these 5 days but in spite of being the smallest park in the country, it harbors 68 mammal species and a wide range of highly visible birds. Some of the birds that are seen in this park include rare shoebill, stork, African finfoot, pelican, and heron among others.
ITINERARY
DAY 1: TRANSFER TO QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK.
The journey to Queen Elizabeth National park will include a number of stopovers not just for a taste of the world-famous local Ugandan delicacies but also for some amazing photo opportunities for example at the Equator for photographs and some shopping for authentic African craft souvenirs. We should be arriving at Queen Elizabeth and your lodge of choice on the afternoon of day 1.
DAY 2: MORNING GAME DRIVE/ LUNCH CRUISE.
On day 2, we will head out for an early game drive to view Lions, Leopards, Giant Forest Hogs, Cape Buffaloes, Elephants, Waterbucks, spotted hyenas, Uganda Kobs, Topi, Bushbucks and bird species. You have the option to have a very early breakfast or save it for later after the game drive.
Later on the afternoon of day 2, we will return to the lodge for a late breakfast and relax till lunch and then after lunch, you will enjoy a Launch cruise on the Kazinga channel into Lake Edward where you will have the opportunity for photography, bird watching, and aquatic game viewing. We will then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
DAY 3: CHIMPANZEE TRACKING/EVENING GAME DRIVE.
After breakfast on day 3, we will head to Kyambura Gorge for Chimpanzee Tracking. The Kyambura gorge is part of the giant Rift Valley, the place where you will meet your chimpanzees in abundance. The chimpanzees are habituated meaning that they are used to human beings they move daily building new nests. In addition to the chimpanzees, expect to spot other wildlife like Vervet and black/white Columbus monkeys, Baboons, and many bird species. Later that afternoon, we will proceed to the crater region where you will take a hike to the craters as you enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Retire at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 4: DRIVE TO LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK.
We will leave Queen Elizabeth National Park after Breakfast on day 4 and drive to Lake Mburo National Park. What is currently Lake Mburo National Park was first gazetted in 1933 as a controlled hunting area and later upgraded to a game reserve in 1963. The area was dominantly occupied by the Banyankore pastoralists (commonly known as Bahima) who continued to herd their cattle and other livestock in the reserve until it was granted a National park status in 1983
The Park is dominated by extensive wetlands, rolling grassy hills, seasonal and permanent swamps, wooden savannah, and forests, which harbor a variety of plants and animal species. You will also have an opportunity to enjoy a boat trip inside Lake Mburo and enjoy wildlife viewing of Crocodiles, Pelicans, Hippos, Herons, Shoebill stork and more.
DAY 5: GAME DRIVE SAFARI/ DEPART FOR KAMPALA
We will have an opportunity for one more game drive on the morning of day 5 after which we will have lunch and head back to Kampala or your preferred drop-off point.
