Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali to Akagera National Park

A Native Expeditions representative will collect you from Kigali International Airport, your hotel or another agreed location.

Travel east to Akagera National Park. After checking in and having lunch, take a boat safari on Lake Ihema.

Look out for hippos, crocodiles and waterbirds. Elephants, buffaloes and antelopes may also be seen near the shoreline.

Depending on your arrival time, enjoy a short evening game drive before returning to your lodge.

Overnight: Akagera National Park

Day 2: Akagera Game Drive and Return to Kigali

After breakfast, explore Akagera on a guided game drive.

Search for lions, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, leopards, hyenas and several antelope species. Leopards and rhinos are more difficult to find, and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Enjoy a picnic lunch before continuing through the park and returning to Kigali.

Overnight: Kigali

Day 3: Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Musanze

Begin the day with a guided Kigali city experience.

Visit selected attractions such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial, local markets or artisan shops. The exact programme can be adjusted around your interests.

After lunch, travel through Rwanda’s hilly countryside to Musanze, near Volcanoes National Park.

Overnight: Musanze

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking and Return to Kigali

After an early breakfast, report to the park headquarters for registration and a gorilla trekking briefing.

Accompanied by experienced guides and rangers, trek through the forest in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. The trek may take several hours depending on the gorillas’ location, terrain and weather.

Once the gorillas are located, spend the permitted time observing and photographing them.

Return to your lodge to change and have lunch before travelling to Kigali. Book a late-evening departure flight or arrange an additional night in Kigali.
