Itinerary



Day 1: Kigali to Akagera National Park

A Native Expeditions representative will collect you from your Kigali hotel, Kigali International Airport or another agreed location.

Travel east through Rwanda’s countryside to Akagera National Park. After checking in and having lunch, take a boat safari on Lake Ihema.

Look out for hippos, crocodiles and waterbirds. Elephants, buffaloes and antelopes may also be seen near the shoreline.

Overnight: Akagera National Park



Day 2: Full-Day Akagera Game Drive

Spend the day exploring Akagera’s savannah, woodland, wetlands and lakes.

Search for lions, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, leopards, hyenas and several antelope species. Leopards and rhinos are more difficult to find, and no wildlife sighting can be guaranteed.

Depending on your lodge location and chosen route, the game drive may cross the park from south to north.

An optional guided night game drive can be arranged at an additional cost and subject to park availability.

Overnight: Akagera National Park



Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Return to Kigali

Enjoy breakfast before checking out and taking a final game drive.

Explore another section of the park while searching for wildlife missed the previous day. Afterwards, begin the journey back to Kigali.

Your guide will drop you at your hotel, Kigali International Airport or another agreed location.

Can I see the Big Five in Akagera?

Akagera is home to lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes and rhinos. Seeing all five during a short visit cannot be guaranteed.

Is the Lake Ihema boat safari included?

This depends on the selected package. Confirm whether the boat trip and applicable park fees are included in your quotation.

Can the safari begin on my arrival day?

Yes, if your flight arrives early enough. Travellers arriving later should spend a night in Kigali and begin the itinerary the following morning.
