ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi, Kenya

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), you will be met by a Native expeditions representative and transferred to your hotel in Nairobi. Depending on what time your flight arrives, you may have the opportunity to experience a guided city tour of the markets and other noteworthy local places.

Day 2: Nairobi National Park & Conservation Tourism & Culture Tour

On the second day of this safari, you will be treated to a full-day visit of Nairobi National Park where you’ll take a half-day safari. The park offers 45 square miles (117 sq m) and 80+ species of mammals that roam free. The park was established in 1945 as the first national park in Kenya and, today, there are lions, leopards, zebras, rhinos, wildebeest, and abundant birdlife. This is also one of the best places in Kenya to see the black and white rhinos.

You will then proceed to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage to see young elephants that have been rescued and are cared for until released back to the wild. Your driver will then take you to the Utamaduni Craft Center, a charitable organization where you’ll find more than a dozen separate rooms selling all kinds of excellent artworks and souvenirs from around Africa.

The rest of the day offers you an array of optional activities, for example, a trip to the Bomas of Kenya—a cultural center in Langata comprised of 11 life-size homesteads (bomas) representing different traditional construction styles from around the country. While here, you can enjoy local cultural performances from around the country.

Day 3: Transfer to Tarangire National Park in Tanzania where a Game Drive awaits

After breakfast on your third day, your driver will pick you up to transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your early morning flight to Tanzania. Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania, you will be transferred to Tarangire National Park where you are sure to marvel at the diverse landscapes and animals range from swarms of yellow-breasted lovebirds to buffaloes, giraffes, and warthogs. Predators include lions, leopards, and hyenas.

After lunch on this day, you will enjoy an afternoon game drive along the sandy banks of the Tarangire River, set against the stunning backdrop of majestic baobab trees and twisted acacias.

Day 4: Transfer to Serengeti National Park via Olduvai Gorge

Olduvai Gorge is a history-changing archaeological site where Mary Leakey discovered a fossil of a 1.8 million-year-old ape-like skull, named Lucy. During your stop, you can explore the remarkable documentation of ancient life, in which layers of volcanic deposits were laid down in an orderly sequence over almost 2 million years.

After Olduvai Gorge, we will proceed to Serengeti National Park.

Day 5: A whole day to explore Serengeti National Park

Today you’ll have the entire day to enjoy morning and afternoon private game drives in the central Serengeti. If you choose to travel between December and March, you may catch some large herd action during the massive Serengeti Migration. The Serengeti is a vast ecosystem that spans 12,000 square miles (30,000 square kilometers) which gave rise to its name, which is derived from the Maasai language and means “endless plains.” When it comes to wildlife, expect to encounter blue wildebeests, gazelles, zebras and buffalos as well as lions and spotted hyenas.

For the traveler with a birding spirit, the Serengeti is also home to more than 500 species of birds, including ostriches, crowned cranes, marabou storks, and secretary birds—some of the most sought-after and photogenic birds on the planet.

Day 6: Transfer to the Ngorongoro Crater

On this day, you will transfer to Tanzania’s prehistoric Ngorongoro Crater (41 miles/66 km)—a UNESCO World Heritage Site, also known as the Eighth Wonder of the World. The Ngorongoro Crater and surrounding highlands together form one of Africa’s most beautiful regions. Volcanic craters form stunning backdrops to some of the most fertile and richest grazing grounds in Africa. The most famous such crater is Ngorongoro, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and home to the highest density of big game in Africa.

The Ngorongoro offers more than just the craters, it is also home to a healthy population of black rhino and some of the largest tusker elephants left in Africa today. Expect to also run into populations of lion, leopard and hyenas, buffalo and zebra as well as approximately 400 species of bird. A Ngorongoro safari is action packed to say the least – and for a relatively small park, it really does have the highest concentration of wildlife.

Day 7: Return to Kenya and Departure

On the final day, you will transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for a flight to Nairobi to connect to your departure flight.
